Wallpaper...What Were They Thinking?

I decided it's time...time to start taking down the flower and plaid wallpaper and it's cutie kittie with a garden theme border.  I've wanted to do it for years.  Now I'm not sure what I had been thinking.  I figured it couldn't be any harder than the late 60's and 70's wallpaper that I've just about finished with in all the other rooms.  I was a tad bit wrong.  I started off as I had before, peeling off the top printed layer so I can douse the adhesive layer with a water/fabric softener solution and then begin scraping it off.  Problem is, when I started tearing off the kittens they rebelled.  They dug those claws in and hung on like their lives depended on it.  They hung on so well that they made sure to take off that top white paper layer on the drywall.
This, the beginning of the kitchen remodel, is going to show me what I'm really made of.  I've learned how to do many things here on the farm, from shovelng what I have convinced myself is all dirt to pulling a breech lamb...it's all been an experience.  This wallpaper, however, is going to give me a workout that not even Jillian Michaels can compete with.
For those of you out there in internet land reading this and insist on putting up wallpaper in your home, please think of those that will come after you and take it down.  Primer before paper is a good thing.  Not priming beforehand will throw the lady of the house into fits of insanity.  Even so, I carry on...  Smiling & Waving, Sharon

I HATE wallpaper. You might try one of those steamer things, if that doesn't work I say paint over it and pretend it's not there :)

We once had to take off a border put up with contact cement. Lady came round a few weeks later to see what we were doing to the house and was FURIOUS we had taken off her beloved border LOL.
