Ross County Fair - Day 5 (The Amusements)

You know what I mean...the rides, the games, the shows.  Our county fair outdoes itself every year when it comes to all the fun.  It's not just animal judging, you know.  Every day there are a whole host of activities going on, from bands of all kinds to the rodeo.  There's even a tractor pull, kiddie tractor pull, and a demolition derby.  Oh, and I can't forget to mention the truck pull, too.  Seems like here in Ross County if you can pull it, crash it, or play it, you'll find it at the fair.  There's even an Ohio's Got Talent Show and believe me, there are some very talented people around here!
What I really enjoy is Monday afternoon before the Kid starts showing his animal projects.  That's when the Agricultural Society hosts the free carnival rides for kids.  If it weren't for that, quite frankly, our kids wouldn't be riding the rides.  It's just gotten too expensive over the years and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Honestly I'm not a ride rider.  Oh I used to be, though.  I'd ride the roller coasters and other rides with as much reckless abandon those rides would allow with the seat belts.  Then something changed.  What, I don't know, but I started not enjoying all that up and down loop-d-loop stuff.  I got soft.  Lost that edge.  I think I'm getting a little green around the gills just thinking about it.  Now I'm the bag holder.  I will stand in line right up to when it's time to get on the ride...then I'll take everyone's stuff and hold it until they get off.  I've become an amusement ride whus.  Well, not entirely.  Give me a merry-go-round and I'll whoop it up like a kid at the candy store!
Would you like to try your hand at winning a gold fish?  You can do it at the fair.  Want to pick up a duck and win a prize?  Shoot a basketball into a hoop for one?  What about knocking down bottles with a ball or shooting a target with BBs?  Yup, it's all there at the fair.
Not into those games?  Well, if you'd rather throw up, try that crazy ride where you sit in this big ship thing and it moves back and forth...back and forth...higher and higher...then it goes around in a complete circle a few times.  Or the one where you sit in a car with another person and it spins around and around real fast forward and then backward...all the time that other person is crushing the life out of you while you're smashed against the inside wall of the car.  Ahhhhh, the memories!  Of course, there's even rides for the little kids that will make them either squeel with delight or shear terror until the ride has come to an end...  Yup, it's all there at the fair!
So what are you waiting for?  There are prizes to be won, rides to be ridden, and shows to watch.  Just don't expect me to hold your bag, too.  My hands are alread full!  Smiling & Waving, Sharon
