Quite frequently I get a song in my head that just won't go away. Right now it's "My Little Runaway" by Del Shannon. It's an early '60's song. If that's too far back for you it was in the '70's movie American Graffiti and the '80's movie Children of the Corn. Now if you're still lost, I know a bit was played during a third season episode of
Heroes. If you're still lost, try Youtube. It's a classic. In between today's high winds and strong storms, while it was pouring rain, I decided it was time to get the dogs out to do their doggie doodies. Why Tabby decided at that moment it was time to take off and feel the wind in her ears, I'll never know. I dutifully called her name, but she continued on. So I went after her, which meant Roxie and Millie were following behind. Toby was the smart one, staying home. It was like a little parade in the rain. When Tabby was just about at the intersection of our little one horse road and a small but busier road she decided it was time for a pit stop. I was able to scoop her up and then we began the doggie parade back home. On the way I talked to her about the perils of being a runaway and maybe that's how she ended up at the Humane Society to begin with. That's when the song hit me. I have sung it, hummed it, and whistled it. The kids are not impressed. I can't help that I love to sing but severely lack the ability to carry a tune. Because of their ridicule I took my song outside and continued to belt it out to the animals. By now they are completely used to my musical capabilities. I don't know what the neighbors think. So, today's experience has given me a tune that just won't quit and a new project added to Hon's honey-do list in the form of a little picket fence for a little dog so next time she decides to hit the road looking for who knows what she won't be able to. In the meantime, she'll be walked on a leash. At least that way I can hold on to my umbrella and not have to abandon it to the side of the road as I do my best to catch up to her. Smiling & Waving, Sharon
